What and where is MASS MoCa? Located in the Berkshires in North Adams, Massacusetts, MASS MoCA opened in 1999 as one of the world's art centers that presents an unconventional look at how art is displayed and how we view art. Located in a vast industrial space, it encompasses 110,000 square feet of broad soaring gallery space.MASS MoCA focuses not only visual arts, but part of, "MoCA's mission are the more than 75 performances staged year-round, including popular music, contemporary dance, alternative cabaret, world music dance parties, outdoor silent films with live music, documentaries, and avant-garde theater." Due to their large gallery spaces, MASS MoCA can take on exhibits other gallery spaces would not have room for.
